We mentioned last time, that Speaker Silver set up a meeting with Senator Squadron and our steering committee, inviting NYC Parks officials and the other elected representatives from our area. Liaisons from Rep. Maloney’s, Borough President Stringer’s, and Council member Chin’s offices attended. As did Park’s Chief of Operations and their Capital Liaison.
Senator Squadron is at this time able to announce $100,000 in capital funding that will be in the Parks Department budget for Gulick Park.
Speaker Silver announced that he and Senator Squadron are continuing to work on funding from the Department of Transportation that could be used to renovate the sidewalk areas around the park. They will keep us apprised as news develops.
We’ll continue moving ahead full steam to engage Council member Chin and Borough President Stringer, as Speaker Silver and Senator Squadron continue to find more capital funding.
Check out The Lo Down article with pictures of the Speaker and Senator playing some basketball.
And this article from The Villager. (Let it be noted that the estimated $2 Million mark should renovate the entire park interior, not just the green/sitting area. The Villager misstates this somewhat.)
Remember to Save The Date: May 16th, 2010, 1pm-5pm, Take Back Our Park Day at Gulick Park. Come have fun and voice your opinion about the parks renovation elements.
