It’s official! The redesign plans for Gulick Park’s first phase of reconstruction were approved by The Public Design Commission on Monday, June 24th. The money has been secured and the plans have been approved, now it’s time for construction documents to be drafted and put out for bidding. It’s still likely another year before construction begins, but this is a major turning point. A better park is all but assured!
Every neighbor who supports Gulick Park by coming to events, who gave us input to help inform the design, who signed a petition or follows these e-mails, deserves our thanks. Elected officials and the Parks Department have taken notice over the past four years and soon enough our community will have an excellent new park. A list of all our supporters past and present is here.

Finally, thanks to everyone who came out to It’s My Park Day on the 2nd. Despite the heat, we had a lot of fun. Summer flowers were planted, Henry St Settlement ran lots of basketball drills and games, NYC Parks’ “Play Mobile” put out some nice crafts, and of course many cheeks were painted. Thanks, also, to City Council Member Margaret Chin, who came by to see the design plans and show her support. Check out the pictures!
