Beautiful weather and friendly neighbors graced Gulick Park this past Sunday. Around 200 people came out to have fun and fix up the park. Almost 1000 flower bulbs went in the ground, the entire park was raked, over 150 pumpkins were painted, and many masks were created–by kids and face-painters alike. This all happened to the wonderful music of Yacouba Diabate. Check out the pictures.
We also collected over 60 ideas for new programming–with a wide range of ideas, including pony rides, movie nights, yoga/dance classes, basketball tournaments, and farmers market days. We will continue to gather your thoughts about what should happen in the new park and use this information to set fundraising goals and to organize those community supported events.
If you would like to join us in this effort, please write back and let us know. If you don’t have the time, but would like to support future maintenance and programming, you can donate securely and tax-deductibly on our site.
Finally, we need to thank Yacouba for offering his music at a discount; Lisa Goldberg for volunteering her expertise as a face painter; Kirsti Bambridge, Wylie Goodman, Julia Raskin, at Partnerships for Parks for help with program visioning and supplies; Emily Walker and New Yorkers for Parks for daffodil bulbs; and The SoHo House NY for financially supporting the event.
