Many people use Gulick Park to walk their dogs, sometimes without a leash. Most of these dog’s caretakers with whom I’ve spoken don’t know that there is a proper leash-free dog walk just a few blocks away (opens a Google map) in Corlear’s Hook Park.
The Lo-Down reports that on Saturday May 21st a newly revived group that tends to the run will host a day of events.
“The day will be an opportunity to participate with making the park better for our dogs and for dog owners,” said Jennifer Coffey, who co-chairs the group with local dog walker Blake Rodriguez. ”It is our hope that this event will allow people who have previously overlooked this dog run a chance to see how convenient it is and how great it it could be, as we work with the Parks Department and the community to make improvements.”
The May 21 event runs from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a volunteer clean-up crew working on the park early in the morning, dog playdates in the run, on-leash trail excursions in East River park, agility events, microchipping, training and grooming tips.
The Friends of East River Dog Run is also looking for LES dog owners who want to get involved, starting with a meeting tonight to finalize plans for next week’s event. Show up at the dog park at 6:30 p.m., or email eastriverdogrun@gmail.com for more info.
